NOTE: WHEN THE LAST 3 OF THESE SYSTEMS ARE SOLD, WE WILL NO LONGER BE CARRYING THIS ITEM. IT WAS THE FIRST SYSTEM WE DEVELOPED, BUT AFTER DEVELOPING SYSTEM 2, AND SEEING THAT IT IS MUCH MORE VERSATILE AND POPULAR WITH CUSTOMERS, IT NO LONGER MAKES SENSE TO CONTINUE WITH THIS ITEM. BLUE IS THE ONLY OPTION AT THIS TIME. (4/10/21)
PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW AS IT WILL HELP YOU DECIDE IF THIS SYSTEM WILL WORK FOR YOU. IT WILL ALSO GIVE YOU IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ASSEMBLING THE SYSTEM AND ITS COMPATIBILITY FOR YOUR SET UP-AT HOME. THERE IS ALSO SHIPPING INFORMATION FOR U.S. AND INTERNATIONAL ORDERS. KNOW THAT IF YOU PURCHASE THIS SYSTEM, AND IT DOES NOT WORK FOR YOU, YOU BEAR THE COST OF RETURNING THE SYSTEM TO US, SO PLEASE CONTACT US WITH ANY CONCERNS BEFORE PURCHASING.
Be aware that our store is markedly under charging for international postage, sometimes as much as 30%. So if the final shipping cost is higher than what you were charged, we will send you an invoice by email; once paid, we can ship the item.
This lightweight, easy to assemble quilt suspension system is designed to make free motion quilting easier by lifting a portion of the quilt off the table and rendering it virtually "weightless." Because it is suspended in air, the quilt does not exert any drag or gravity pull against you as you quilt. Even king size quilts are literally weightless with this system! Learn to free motion quilt with ease once the weight of the quilt is no longer working against you!
This system will come to you in 3 pieces: a clamp, which opens to 1 5/8 inches and clamps to your table top. If your table top is thicker than 1 5/8 inches, this clamp system will not work. But there are some work-arounds, but PLEASE email us before purchasing as you bear the cost of returning the system if it does not work out for you; a steel upright (nearly 24 in long), and a set of aluminum arms. Two Bungee cords and squeeze clamps attach to the arms. Altogether, the assembly weighs just under 2 1/2 pounds. Just to advise, these arms and clamps are shipped from China to the US west coast, then from there to NC. During all that travel, most sustain some superficial dents, dings, scuffs and scratches. These do not interfere with their function, and any items that are significantly damaged are set aside. If we rejected each item that had any surface defects, we would not be able to sell any of them! But these systems were meant to be functional, not pretty, so just to make everyone aware, the minor dings are basically badges of honor! We will not be exchanging any of the items that we send out because of superficial injuries.
The table should have about 3 inches of tabletop for the clamp to slide into, but it appears if you can get at least 1.5 of the 3 inches of the tabletop into the clamp that it will be secure enough.
Once you've clamped the vertical backbone to your table, simply slip the arm assembly into the hollow space at the top of the backbone. It is a little loose-fitting, so feel free to wrap some tape around the arm assembly to tighten up the fit. The arms hold short bungee cords with spring clamps attached. These clamps are lightweight and easy to open and close with only one hand. The arms project toward your machine making it easy to clamp and un-clamp your project from your chair.
You can adjust the height of the system by adjusting the small knob in the clamp and/or by tying a knot in the bungee cord.
The system can quickly and easily be setup or dismantled so that it can be taken to a class or a quilting retreat.
If you are working with a setup where your machine head is facing you (i.e. HQ Sweet 16; Babylock Tiara; Pfaff Powerquilter 16.0; Bernina Q20), or you have a set up where you cannot clamp directly behind your machine, or you have a wide table over 26 inches front to back, be sure to look at our Quilt Suspension System 2 (it also has a video) as it will likely accommodate your needs.
The backbone and clamp are available in two colors: purple or dark blue. (See top two photos to left) Be sure to choose your desired color in the drop down menu.
Honestly, our spring clamps are of modest quality. The orange tips on them are actually more of a nuisance than they are worth and provide no extra grip on the quilt. In fact, Patsy looks forward to when they pop off!! So, your clamps will work just as well without the orange tips, and feel free to pop them off if you wish. We won't be replacing clamps for that reason, but if the clamp were to crack or break within a year of purchase, we would be glad to replace it. After that, they, or similar ones, can be found in most department stores, hardware and auto stores for under $ 2.00. Ours come from Harbor Freight.
Even though this is an overall lightweight system, shipping weight is 3 1/2 pounds, and by USPS Priority, allowing us to ship anywhere in the world, and to PO BOXES. That makes shipping costs around $ 10 to $ 22, depending how far it has to travel in the US. BUT there is no tax to pay (except in Ohio), so that helps some! And no driving....it comes right to your door!! The cheapest shipping (First Class International) to Canada is about $ 40 and to Europe/Australia is about $ 65. We can look into UPS as a possible cheaper option.
If you are uncertain this set up will work for you, please email us and send a photo of your machine set up to see if we can make it work.
